Essentials to know about your travel experience.
My intention is for you to feel completely at ease - both in making the decision to join us and in preparing for your journey. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know so all that’s left is to pack your bag and look forward to what’s ahead.
Traveling to Guatemala
Guatemala is a safe country to travel, despite what you may have heard. You will fly into La Aurora International airport in Guatemala City Airport (GUA). Lake Atitlan is a 3 hour drive from the airport. Depending on when / what time you arrive into Guatemala, you may want to stay one night near the airport in Guatemala City (if you arrive late at night), or one or two nights in Antigua (which is an hour drive from the airport in Guatemala City, and worth seeing either way - on the front or back end of your trip here).
Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a charming town boasting ruins within, cobblestone streets, culinary delights, and more. I can make recommendations for places to stay in Guatemala City and/or Antigua, and help you make reservations and transportation arrangements.
Your transportation to the retreat is included in your investment, whether you are arriving from the airport or Antigua.

Weather & What to Pack
You will be here during our “green” season. We have rain during this season, but the last few years it has been more inconsistent than usual. It generally rains on some days in the afternoons, around 3 or 4pm, or at night. There may be an occasional downpour, but these happen more in the nighttime. In my opinion this is a beautiful time of year. The foliage is lush and green, and everything feels fresh.
The days are warm and sunny (70-80 degrees), and at around 4:00pm it starts to cool off. The nights are cool (50-60 degrees) so a lightweight jacket can be useful.
Pack casual and comfortable clothes that you can layer… short-sleeved shirts during the day and long sleeves and jeans/pants for the nights.

Here’s a list of things that I recommend to get you started:
✔ Lightweight jacket
✔ Rain jacket
✔ Rain Boots
✔ Comfortable shoes for walking
✔ Flip-flops or sandals
✔ Hat
✔ Sunblock
✔ Swimsuit
✔ Sunglasses
✔ Refillable water bottle
✔ Umbrella
✔ Earplugs (sometimes there are loud firecrackers or dogs barking at night)
✔ Clothing that’s easy to layer

Money
Let your banks know in advance that you’re traveling to Guatemala so that they don’t suspect theft and block your card.
Ask if they can waive international ATM fees while you’re here. Some credit unions reimburse ATM fees.
The local Guatemalan currency is called the quetzal (the quetzal is the name of the national bird).
The current conversion is 7.82 quetzales = $1.

Cell Phone Service
If you don't coordinate something with your cell phone carrier at home, and if you have an unlocked smartphone, you can buy a SIM card from the airport and certain tiendas (shops) here. There are 2 options for carriers called Claro and Tigo. You can buy cell service for a week or more. We pay Q120 ($15) for a month of service with unlimited data.
From my Heart
to Yours
If you're here, I truly believe it's not by accident. This retreat was born from my own journey of depletion and rediscovery - and it's my deepest joy to now create and facilitate this space for others to rekindle their spark. I can’t wait to welcome you to this sacred place I now call home.
